The Oberoi Bali

It is now three decades since The Oberoi, Bali, heralded the beginning of luxury tourism in Seminyak. Designed by the renowned architect Peter Muller, this beautifully landscaped resort with its beachside swimming pool rests within 15 acres of tropical gardens, and is reminiscent of a classic Balinese village featuring extensive use of lime stone.

The 14 villas each have a walled courtyard ensuring absolute privacy, a dining pavilion for intimate dining, an air-conditioned bedroom and an en-suite bathroom. Most have their own full size swimming pool.

The 60 Lanai Rooms each feature a terrace for outdoor dining and a luxurious air-conditioned bathroom set in a walled garden. Resting within the garden of this gorgeous hotel is a romantic restaurant called Kura Kura - a breezy thatched pavilion surrounded by lotus ponds in a setting that truly encapsulates the mystique and enchantment of the island. Here diners are serenaded by the cheery 'Angklung' music of a bamboo orchestra from Negara in West Bali, combined with the rhythmic accompaniment of the waves crashing upon the shore. The Frangipani Café is a celebrated spot for alfresco dining and there are frequent cultural performances at the Amphitheatre.

Open air massage pavilions are a popular feature of the Oberoi Spa, which also includes a beauty salon, sauna, gym and tennis court. The enticing swimming pool is evocative of an ancient Balinese bathing place fed by a sacred spring, truly embracing the culture and ambience of the island. A stone balustrade borders one corner and ornate fringed temple parasols provide shade to the sun-lounging guests. The poolside Kayu Bar completes the experience.
